The Williams Chili Challenge is always held on the third weekend of October each year. In 2009, the event will take place on Friday, October 16th and Saturday, October 17th.
The contest is held in Old Town Lenexa (the corner of Santa Fe Trail Drive and Pflumm Road). There are 100 teams competing in two divisions: Competition (C.A.S.I.) Chili and Home Style Chili. In 1999 a Salsa Division was added that has been very popular. Since then, we have also added a hot wing contest. Chili contestants show up Friday afternoon and begin setting up their booth space.
The festivities begin at 5:00 pm Friday night with live music and activities for all. The contest begins Saturday at 9 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. with the announcement of the winners. There is an admission charge of $1 per adult. Children under 12 free. There will be chili to sample, games, music, and live entertainment.
Williams Foods is the title sponsor for this event. Other special area sponsors include Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Mid-America, Gill Studios, the Historic Old Town Lenexa Association, and Lenexa Parks and Recreation Department
Proceeds from this year’s contest will help benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
